A spirits brand with a bold, unapologetic character
John Robert’s Botanic Request comes from a punk, can-do attitude, challenging established distilling conventions, experimenting with the unexpected and refusing to do things just because that’s how they’ve always been done. The challenge was how to give that attitude a distinctive place in a crowded market without falling back on gimmicks or passing fads.
Working closely with the founder, I built the brand from scratch, using bold typography, gritty art direction and collage that brings the characters behind the brand into the identity itself. I shaped everything from the logo and packaging to photography and art direction, and worked directly with label printers to make sure the finished bottle stayed true to the idea.
Bold contrasting colours make the bottle pop wherever it shows up, from dark back bars to bright retail shelves.
From day one, the identity was built to flex across the range, giving each SKU its own personality without losing the character of the master brand.
I shot and created a series of collages using the founders, stills and cocktail photography, bringing the brand’s more human, gritty side to life.
